We’re partnering with Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Northampton Chronicle & Echo to tackle child poverty
The Fair Deal for Kids fund, launched in 2015, is a dedicated fund for community groups and volunteer organisations within Northamptonshire that work to help the county’s 8,400 children and young people that are living in poverty. The money aims to address these often ‘hidden’ needs by providing grants.
Child poverty was highlighted as a priority need in Northampton in a Hidden Needs Report commissioned by the Northamptonshire Community Foundation in 2018.
Debra Charles, Novacroft’s CEO & Founder, is passionate about giving back to the community and has recently joined the Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s board of trustees. Debra said:
It’s heartbreaking to know that so many children are living in poverty. If we can make a difference to children in Northamptonshire, we’ll be supporting not only the future of our county, but of the country too.
As well as fundraising, Novacroft will be supporting its new Charity of the Year through volunteering, for which each Novacroft team member is entitled to take four paid days leave per year. One of the first activities in aid of Fair Deal for Kids is a team Couch to 5K, which follows the success of the team running programme at Novacroft in 2018.
Rachel McGrath, Northamptonshire Community Foundation grants director, speaking to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo in late February, said:
The more funds raised through the appeal the more projects we will be able to support, which is why we are delighted that Novacroft has chosen the Fair Deal for Kids appeal.
Fair Deal for Kids is an amazing cause; I look forward to working with the team here at Novacroft, the NCF and the Northampton Chronicle to do all we can to help.
Novacroft has supported many local causes in its twenty years in business, raising over £30,000 in total to date, including £3002 for the RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch in 2018.
As part of our work to support the futures of charities, on 22 March we will be hosting a forum in London with national charities, to create an action plan which enables them to flourish in an increasingly digital future. Find out more here.
